March marked the progress of several EU integration initiatives intended to further Ukraine’s compliance with the acquis communutaire. The long-awaited amendments to the Law on Advertising were passed in the first reading, while the subcommittee of the Parliamentary Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy started preparing Draft Law #12111 for the second reading. Another important update this month was the adoption of the provisions governing the procedure of border crossing during martial law for male media professionals.
The most notable events happening in this period were:
- the formalization of procedure for crossing the border for male media professionals during martial law;
- the continuation of legislative processes surrounding two draft laws furthering Ukraine’s EU integration efforts in the spheres of media and advertising regulation;
- the updates to sub-legislation governing NCON, the martial law electronic communications regulator;
- the further activities of the media regulator in protecting Ukraine’s media space from harmful content.
This series of digests, produced with the support of International Media Support (IMS), provides an overview of the proposed and adopted legislation in the spheres of freedom of expression, media regulation, privacy and data protection, Internet regulation in general, and the activities of the National Broadcasting Council in the area of Media Law implementation.
